Flinders Street Train Station with Border and Label 1912

from A$100.00

12-hour restoration of the original print in poor condition. This “just-completed” Flinders Street Train Station looking across the intersection of Swanston and Flinders Streets. You can see the fashion of locals and the very heavy traffic of early adopter cars, open trams, horse-drawn vehicles, and pedestrians. Did you know number plates were first required in 1908? You can see one with “4978”, clearly not many in Victoria at that time.

We have a variation option without the label. You can also request that the text be made custom, just for you.

The tower in the smokey background is Melbourne Fish Market. Built in 1890, it was an amazingly ornate building, featuring spires and a clock tower, and covering 23,000 square metres. It was demolished in 1956 for a car park when Melbourne wanted to modernise its appearance in preparation for the Olympic Games.
