In Clifton Hill, a truly one-of-a-kind landmark stands tall—a dazzling blend of Art Deco elegance and fast-food nostalgia. Once the United Kingdom Hotel, this architectural gem is now fondly known as “the most beautiful McDonald’s in
the world.”
The United Kingdom Hotel first opened its doors in the 1860s as a staging post for weary coach drivers. By 1937, the old hotel was replaced by this stunning Art Deco masterpiece—designed by J.H. Wardrop, the architect behind the Shrine of Remembrance.
The hotel served its last pint in 1988, making way for McDonald’s. But thanks to heritage protections, its glorious Art Deco façade and interiors were preserved, blending the building’s original charm with fast-food reds and yellows. Today, it’s one of Melbourne’s most photographed buildings—an unexpected mix of classic design and contemporary culture.
Raise your McCafé and celebrate this mishmash of McDeco elegance with our latest Suburban Icons print—a tribute to one of the most unique and iconic buildings in Australia!
This artwork is available in A0, A1, A2, A3, A4. Professional framing is available on A0, A1 and A2 sizes via pick up only.
