Luna Park St Kilda Suburban Icon Poster

from A$50.00

Since its opening in 1912 (December 13) by North American entrepreneur J.D. Williams and the Los Angeles-based Phillips brothers, Leon, Herman, and Harold, Luna Park has been an iconic fixture in St Kilda for over a century. Named after the internationally renowned American-style amusement parks—the most famous being at Coney Island in NYC—Luna Park in St Kilda carries a rich legacy. Many of the original designers of Coney Island's attractions lent their expertise to Luna Park, contributing to its timeless charm. Among these is the Scenic Railway ride, still operational today, which holds the title of the world's oldest continually-operated wooden roller coaster. Constructed almost entirely of timber, apart from the rails, it stretches nearly a mile and uniquely features a standing “brakeman” aboard the ride. This storied attraction even captured the attention of Queen Elizabeth during her Coronation Tour in 1954, leaving us to ponder if she too experienced its thrilling journey.

Today, Luna Park continues to be a source of joy for both St Kilda residents and the wider Melbourne community. Bringing the spirit of this beloved amusement park into your home, our special piece features Mr. Moon's iconic, ever-smiling face, a symbol of the endless fun and excitement within Luna Park's gates. This cheerful emblem, a beacon of delight for generations, is now ready to brighten your home, just as it has brightened countless days for those visiting Luna Park's enchanting world of amusements.

This artwork is available in A0, A1, A2, A3, A4, as well as the ever popular Postcard and Bookmark from our market stall. Professional framing is available on A0, A1 and A2 sizes via pick up only.
